Bathroom Light Overview

As with all other rooms inside the house, the lighting can make or break your bathroom. It can be lit in many different ways, according to what atmosphere you want for your bathroom and how much budget you have. General lights are often enough, but you can enhance the aura of the bathroom by adding on sparkles accents. When renovating the bathroom, illumination should be one of the aspects that take center stage. Each lamp or bulb can have numerous other functions rather than lighting. The right light can spell the difference between a fully-lit bathroom and injury due to poor lighting.

The hazards posed by improper lighting is numerous, which is why as soon as you realize that the bathroom is poorly lit you should make changes. One way to provide more light is to start with task lighting. These can be placed near or around the mirrors inside the bathroom. With proper placing, your bathroom can be illuminated well. The type of bulb should also be given consideration. For task lighting, halogen or incandescent lights can do the job very well because they provide more illumination than other types. These can also be installed with a dimmer so that you can control how much light you need.

You may also want to use neodymium bulbs when lighting up the spaces around bathroom vanities. These bulbs provide light that is similar to sunlight, thus completely illuminating all those dark spaces. Recessed lighting should also be kept away for vanities because they can create shadows that may distract you as you are performing your usual bathroom tasks.

Recessed lights can be used in other rooms in other parts of your house, but these should not be used in areas that need a lot of illumination. Concave mirrors that are lit may be placed near the main mirror so that you can have more light when you are in front of it.

Perhaps the part of the bathroom that needs most illumination is the vanity area. If you insist on using recessed lighting inside the bathroom, these will better serve the tub or shower area, but be prepared to spend more for additional bulbs so that you will have a properly lit area that still has your desired soft glow. Water prone areas should have enough light through the installation of shower trims, gaskets, and glass diffusers. With the right lighting, your bathroom will be sunnier, warmer, and cozier for you.
